Natural Sciences student at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa (1992-2001).
MSc degree at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa (cum laude - March 1997).
Title of thesis: A Molecular Investigation into the Founder Hypothesis for Variegate Porphyria in South African families.
PhD degree in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa (December 2001).
Title of dissertation: Tagging and mapping of prominent structural genes on chromosome arm 7DL of common wheat.

Career/Employment

Since July 2001 employed as researcher (postdoc); first at the Department of Plant Pathology, University of Stellenbosch (South Africa), and since January 2003 with the Royal Netherlands Academy of Science (Amsterdam) at the Centraalbureau voor Schimmelcultures (Utrecht).

Presented various practical and theoretical modules to students in Plant Pathology and Genetics at the University of Stellenbosch (South Africa). Involved as daily supervisor in the training of doctoral students in our research group.

Specialization

(I) main field: Phylogeny of Mycosphaerella and its anamorphic genera.
(II) some specific projects: Species concepts in the genus Cercospora, Identification of Mycosphaerella spp. occurring on Eucalyptus, Phylogeny of the genus Cylindrocladium.
