Johanna Westerdijk Award

Rules of procedure for awarding the Johanna Westerdijk Award:

Awarded on special occasions to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the culture collection of the CBS Fungal Biodiversity Centre, marking a distinguished career in mycology. Nominees for the award will be evaluated on the basis of quality, originality, and quantity of their contributions to the collection, and on the basis of associated mycology research in general.

  • The award consists of a plaque and certificate.
  • The nomination shall be submitted to the Director of the CBS Fungal Biodiversity Centre, who acts as Convener of a Selection Committee.
  • The Selection Committee shall consist of the Director and the Management Team.
    The nomination is confidential.
  • If the Selection Committee finds a nomination unacceptable, all correspondence regarding that nomination shall be destroyed.
  • The Director of the CBS Fungal Biodiversity Centre shall present the award at a social function as determined by the Management Team.

General Requirements:

  • Intended for a distinguished mycological career, over which period valuable fungal biodiversity, in the form of living cultures, were deposited at CBS for preservation.
  • An individual may receive the Johanna Westerdijk Award only once.
  • Self nomination is not allowed.

Documents required (nomination folder should contain):

  • A nominating letter, including a detailed evaluation of the nominee’s outstanding contributions to the CBS Fungal Biodiversity Centre culture collection.
  • A current curriculum vitae, including a list of the nominee’s publications.
  • Up to three additional letters of support.

Josef Adolf von Arx Award

Rules of procedure for awarding the Josef Adolf von Arx Award:

Awarded on special occasions to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to taxonomic research of fungal biodiversity, marking a distinguished career in mycology. Nominees for the award will be evaluated on the basis of quality, originality, and quantity of their contributions in the field of fungal taxonomy.

  • The award consists of a plaque and certificate.
  • The nomination shall be submitted to the Director of the CBS Fungal Biodiversity Centre, who acts as Convener of a Selection Committee.
