The CBS Course Medical Mycology 2010 took place at the CBS Fungal Biodiversity Centre in Utrecht, The Netherlands, 15-26 March, 2010. The course was truly international with 36 participants from 14 countries representing four continents. Lectures were given by 17 specialists in all areas of medical mycology. Fungal groups were covered with presentations on clinical appearance, antifungal susceptibility and management, and were demonstrated during microscopical practice in the afternoon. Phylogenetical and ecological information added to understanding of the diversity of the fungi and their pathogenic potential. The course was concluded with an examination, providing proof that it is indeed possible to learn to identify a wide range of fungi within two weeks - which was quite a relief to the participants. The course is very information-dense, and very rewarding.
