There is an obligation on the part of the food producer and retailer to ensure that food is safe for the consumer. Food manufacturers must be certain of ingredient quality and consistency. The effective use of sophisticated ingredients is of critical importance in adding value to food products and in meeting increasing consumer demand for good tasting and healthy food.

Humans have been eating food contaminated with mycotoxins throughout history. Nowadays, the levels present in foods are usually very low. However, the effect of exposure at these levels for a prolonged period is largely unknown. Therefore, the reduction, and preferably elimination, of contamination is the long-term goal of all food producers, suppliers and legislative agencies. Many countries legislate for, or suggest, maximum permitted levels of mycotoxins in foods because of the potential safety and commercial implications of their presence

The staff of the department Applied Research CBS have been working on fungal problems since many decades and are the leading authorities in the mycological investigations of food, and beverages. We can carry out totally confidential customised research & development and trouble-shooting projects for individual companies.

We offer an identification service for moulds, yeasts and bacteria and can advise you on how to control the problems they can cause. Potential mycotoxin problems can be analysed also in collaboration with the mycototoxin expert centre at the Technical Universty in Denmark.

Confidentiality

CBS carries out a wide range of confidential research projects, including identifcations of strains for clients worldwide. These are carried out either on an individual client basis, where results would be exclusive to that client or on a multi-client basis, should a number of clients have similar interests. From initial contact to the final report, we can guarantee confidentiality.
